Why Should I Invest In Therapy?
If this is your first time considering therapy or if you’ve had a bad experience with therapy in the past, you might be wondering if this whole counseling thing is right for you. Is it worth the financial resources and time commitment?
In my (somewhat biased) opinion, it most definitely is! Having someone who will actively listen to you as you talk about your feelings and problems is an invaluable tool to help maintain your emotional health.
Benefits of Therapy
- You get to see your thoughts and problems from a different perspective
- You get to talk about feelings that you’ve been too afraid to talk about before
- You learn coping skills to help you manage the stress you face on a daily basis
- You learn tools to help you find solutions so you can get unstuck
- You feel less alone in dealing with your problems
- You develop more self-awareness and gain personal insight
What Happens During Our Rirst Session?
Our first session together is about getting to know each other. I’ll ask you questions to get a sense of who you are, what’s going on in your life, and how you hope therapy can help. This will help me get a better understanding of how I can best support you.
Since this is a collaborative process , I encourage you to come with questions that you might have for me as well. This will help you to decide if we are a good fit.
The relationship we develop is an important part of treatment so it’s crucial that you feel safe, accepted, and respected. Not all therapists are right for every person, so I encourage you to use our first session to assess whether or not you think my style is a good match for your personality.
How Often Will We Meet?
To start out, I recommend that we meet once a week. In my experience, I find that it’s important to gain some momentum in the beginning by meeting weekly, otherwise progress can stall out. Once some or all of your treatment goals are met, we can determine if meeting less frequently makes sense.
Do You Accept Insurance?
If you’d like to use insurance, I currently accept United Healthcare, Oscar, and Oxford insurances through Headway, a therapist matching site. You can schedule an intake session with me through Headway by clicking the button below.
Why Choose Online Therapy?
In today’s society, we often juggle many different responsibilities that require a lot our time and energy. This shouldn’t get in the way of you maintaining your emotional well-being.
Online therapy offers you a convenient, confidential, and effective solution to help balance the demands of your daily life with taking care of your emotional health.
With online therapy, you’re able to engage in treatment from the comfort of your home, your office, or even your car. You don’t have to worry about sitting in traffic, taking off work early, finding a sitter, or getting to the next place you need to be on time.
Is Online Therapy Confidential?
Yes. Your privacy is of the utmost importance to me. This is why I use a HIPAA compliant secure platform made for therapists and doctors who practice online.
Your information will be stored in an encrypted database that is compliant with all federal and state healthcare privacy laws. The video feed that we use for our sessions is also encrypted, ensuring confidentiality & the protection of your information.
I use Simple Practice for our sessions. When you click on links to my services through out this website, it takes you to the user portal for my online office.
Is It as Effective as Face to Face Therapy?
Yes. Clinical researchers have studied whether online psychotherapy and conventional face-to-face therapy are equally effective in experiments. The results from some of these studies indicate that online therapy is just as effective as in-person counseling. Below you’ll find links to a few studies and articles that discuss these findings.
Is Online Therapy for Everyone ?
- While online therapy is comparable to traditional face to face counseling, it isn’t the appropriate mode of treatment for everyone. Some situations where online counseling isn’t appropriate includes:
- A recent history of suicidal or homicidal thoughts or actions
- A history of auditory/visual hallucinations
- Active and severe substance use
- Poor internet capabilities
- Lack of private spaces
How Does Online Therapy Work?
Once your first session is booked, you’ll get an email with a link to set up your online account through Simple Practice.
From there, you’ll have access to everything you need: consent forms, payment info, scheduling, and secure messaging so you can communicate with me. You can also download an app to do it all from your smartphone.
Ten minutes before every appointment, you’ll get an email with the link to the secure video session.
